Criteria to become a foster carer

  1. 1
Applicants must be over the age of 25.
    2
Prospective foster carers need to have a spare room for a child in their home.
    3
You can be a renter or homeowner.
    4
Full Driving Licence is required. However, if you live in a city with good transport links there is some flexibility around this. Please get in touch.
    5
If in a couple, you must be in a committed and stable relationship.
    6
All prospective foster carers will be required to obtain a medical assessment (covering physical and mental health).  We cannot place a child under five years old or any child who has a disability or a respiratory difficulty in a home where there is someone who smokes cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
    7
We ask for a two-year age gap between the carers’ birth child and the child in care. Allowing both the birth child and the child in care to have a clear sense of their position within the family structure reduces any sense of displacement for the birth child.
    8
Foster Carers availability and working hours. Foster Carers need to have availability, however there is some flexibility with this so please contact us to discuss further.

Most important – you and all members of your house are committed to offering a safe, loving and respectful home to the child in your care.
